The Nutcracker

imagem-homepageThis year, the Brazilian Cia de Ballet (CBB) will present one of the greatest holiday classics, The Nutcracker. The story is known since 1892, and is traditionally staged on Christmas Eve in virtually all countries of the world.

The narrative talks about Clara, a girl who earns from her godfather a different Christmas gift : a  nutcracker doll dressed as a soldier. Clara falls in love with the doll and one night after playing, the girl falls asleep and dreams of an adventure in a magical world where fantastic events happen.

The Ballet will be presented at Teatro Bradesco Rio located at Shopping Village Mall  in Barra da Tijuca.

Lapa Jazz Festival

download (1)Next  Thursdays  will be invaded by  the purest jazz syncopation. The Lapa Jazz Festival comes packed with  vibrant talents who promise to shake Fundição Progresso.

At the end of 19th century the Jazz and the Brazilian Popular Music  emerged and since then they’ve been doing exchanges. At first the American style dictated the musical  fashion in the  world but it was  gradually opening up and incorporating new rhythms such as the  Brazilian bossa nova from the 1960’s that gave the old style jazz a breath of renewal.

Fundição Progresso, will be hosting on the next 2 Thursdays, the Lapa Jazz Festival.

Bill Clinton will promote regional meeting of his Foundation in Rio de Janeiro

The Clinton Global Initiative is an initiative of the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation that brings together global leaders to create and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The CGI Annual Meetings have already taken more than 150 heads of state, 20 Nobel Prize laureates, and hundreds of CEOs, presidents of foundations and NGOs, philanthropists and prominent members of the media.

World leaders in the public, private and government sectors will participate in the Clinton Global Initiative Latin America (Latin America CGI) meeting to be held between 8th and 10th of December at the Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, to mobilize philanthropy and corporate social responsibility worldwide  through the CGI.

The program in Latin America emphasize the efforts that are being made ​​to bring social and economic progress of the region towards the future, with sessions that will address the issues Developing Human Capacity, Planning Green Growth and Mobilizing the Potential of Technology and Innovation.

Since the launch of the Clinton Global Initiative in 2005, its members have made 616 commitments around the world that directly impact the region of Latin America and more than 250 of these were created specifically to improve lives in the region. These commitments include efforts to create jobs, the expansion of education programs for early childhood, preparation for reducing the impact of natural disasters and increasing the full and equal participation of girls and women in society.


So it is Christmas once more

The Christmas Tree  at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas

images (1)This year, one of the symbols of our city will be 18th years old.
Our Christmas tree, will be opened on November 30th and will be more beautiful than ever.

Its theme will be ” A celebration of life : water, air, forest, humanity and Christmas”. It will have  85 feet high, the equivalent of 28 floors, the Christmas tree weighs 542 tons.  To lighten it, were installed 3.1 million micro lights, 120 thousand meters of luminous hose and a hundred bright LED reflectors. Five generators  will  brighten the tree and has the ability to illuminate 120 statues of Christ the Redeemer .       lagoa2

Twelve hundred people, including assembly, opening, maintenance and disassembly, are involved in the work.  The design is signed by Abel Gomes, who has participated since the first edition in 1996. According to the Guinness Book of Records, our tree is  the largest floating tree in the world.

The event promises  pure emotion because  an electronic carillon was imported from Italy  to play the sounds of original bells chimes, with high quality. The system will also allow to play music on scheduled days and times, the songs will be heard on the banks of Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas .

” Our Christmas tree was created to thrill the population of Rio de Janeiro, eventually expanding to Brazil and now it resonates worldwide” .

A super event organized by  the students of Tourism and Advertising from Estacio de Sá University, Campus Niterói. This event will present:
– Lectures, curiosities and information on thematic tents with  focus on one country from each continent, thereby displaying their culture in the gastronomic field.
– Games entitled to raffles and giveaways.
– Exposure of culture in general.
– And the most delicious: the tasting!
