Carnival is just around the corner ….

26 February 2014

To Dance is very good. At carnival is even better, it relieves the stress of day-to-day, is good for the body and soul and gives a bath of fun and joy. But it’s always good to know  how to combine all this carnival euphoria with the hot summer season to say good bye to Momo’s  celebration with  a refreshed energy.

images (4)Here are  some healthy advice  we should  follow  on those happy carnival days:

– Drink plenty of  liquids during the party ;

– Eat every three hours ;

– Eat small portions into several meals ;

– Avoid fatty meats and snacks ;

– Do not go out without eating in order  to lose weight ;

– Take cereal bars with you ;

– Do not eat in places without proper hygiene ;

– If you drink alcohol , intersperse water or fruit juice between sips ;

– Keep your stomach with some food , but do not overdo it .

– Get lots of sleep and avoid mending a day in the other;

– Wear comfortable clothing and preferably produced from natural fabrics such as cotton to allow the transpiration of the skin;

– Remember also the care of sexually transmitted diseases, particularly AIDS and hepatitis , so safe sex is never enough.

– During this period  the “foliões”  lose enough fluid and expend energy because of the high temperature and the movement on the street parades  and dancing samba on the avenue . Because of this , the basic rule is to keep the body hydrated with fruit juices , coconut water or water , because besides being drinking fluids will be supplying the lack of minerals. Stick to juices instead of soft drinks .

–  For those who like a beer , it is best to merge a juice or a bottle of water between a bear and another .

Ready ?!? So, Let’s enjoy the party and have lots of fun !!!

Samba School’s Parade in Rio

The Samba School Parade is something you have to experience at least once in a lifetime. You have to mingle with the crowd, sweat, march with a samba school and have lots of fun. The Parade is not free  but more than worth the investment. The samba parade marathon is more than a show, is  also a fierce competition.

images (3) The Samba School is  an association of people from the same neighborhood. They get together on a regular basis for samba nights and rehearsals (ensaios) at their samba court (quadra). Samba schools provide invaluable jobs to the community, that is employed year-round in the production of costumes and floats.

A different theme is chosen every year and it takes place at  Sambodrome. They  take to the Parade  from 3,000 to 5,000 members with  6 to 8 floats  during 75 minutes to make it through the runway  and they have to pass by a jury of experts that will score the best ones .

Rio de Janeiro … Gigóia Island

14 February 2014

Caimans? In Rio de Janeiro? Yeeesss….!!images (1)

In the middle of the Atlantic Forest of Rio de Janeiro and very close to the best of  Barra da Tijuca, you will see the Gigóia Island. Unknown to most locals, perhaps because is hidden by the great buildings of  Barra da Tijuca, the Gigóia Island offers a quiet and bucolic setting, which contrasts with the bustle of the rest of the neighborhood. The island is small with only 3000 residents and it is possible to cross it on a 20 minute walk. Without roads or cars, the entire route is done by alleys.

The access to the island is made  by boats, called Chalana and small ferries and you can take them at Avenida das Americas, between Barra Point and Unimed Center.

imagesThe Environment is still the biggest attraction of the island where you can see live, free swimming alligators, capybaras, monkeys, many types of birds and herons of several species.

It’s a beautiful place to spend the day and enjoy the lush nature . Well worth a visit!
